Poetry Corner #10: Silence
I know I said last week was poetry corner #10, but I was wrong. Enjoy today's poem.
Today is the first of the month, but the last month of the year. December 1st seems like a contradiction; a beginning and the foreshadowing of an ending. The moment where all the things we’ve been saying we’re going to do this year, come crashing to our consciousness to hold us accountable. But there’s no need to fret. Like today, tomorrow will begin again. A new year will begin in a month, and with it, a new chance for us to be.
I’ll say what I mentioned this morning in my Instagram stories: I won’t suggest you make these last 31…or now 30 days count, because it all counts. I’d like to suggest, instead, that we pay attention — to everything. What are the things we notice in our day that make us smile? What is a sound that gives us joy? Is it the coffee brewing in the morning, or the chorus of our favorite song when it plays in the background while we’re cooking? Is it the voice of someone we like or the uncontrollable laughter of a little kid?
But what if we can’t hear a sound? What if the world was silent? In the loud chaos of our mind, would we even notice?
The rule I have with this blog/newsletter (which I’ll try not to break - sorry!) is to post a poem on the first day of every month. These poems are for my paid subscribers. If you like what you’ve been reading, and you’ve enjoyed the freebies I’ve shared in the past, consider becoming a paid subscriber today. It is a great way to support my work. Last week I included a special offer for you to try a paid subscription (for FREE!), with access to all my content, for 30 days. I will include it again this week.
