Hi everyone,
First of all, I want to say thank you for coming back to Truth & Dare and for the motivating messages I get from you. I’m coming to terms with the fact that impostor syndrome and content brain are, and will continue to be, part of becoming a writer. So receiving your words of encouragement means so much and keeps me going!
This month, I’ve decided to share my first “free” poem for two reasons. One, I wrote it on a whim when I was experimenting on Threads (Instagram’s version of Twitter -now “X”-) and then I posted it on the Notes section of Substack as well. This means random readers that came across both platforms got to see this poem. However, I suspect that you, my subscribers, did not see it on either one of those posts. The second reason is for those of you who are free subscribers to get a sense of the poems I post behind the paywall. If you like what you’re reading, you can consider upgrading your subscription and/or share with someone else who’d enjoy my poetry.
If for whatever reason, you cannot afford the paid subscription but want to have access to the poetry, please reach out to me and I’ll figure out how I can give you access. Ultimately, what I look for in this community is to have people that enjoy my work, can relate, can feel something from it, and can’t get enough :)
Love,
Silvia
P.S.: I took this photo on a recent trip to Cornwall, UK. The extraordinary beauty of this English region is breath-taking. My aunt, who brought me there, tells me how she fell in love with the place from the first time she visited. I just imagined myself walking through the beach, early in the morning, as she has done now for years, taking the world in.
The sign read “beach”
as if it was all that simple
that obvious,
that noncommittal.
The sign did not warn me
of the overwhelming beauty
all around me by the shore,
of the feelings of abundant joy
that washed up by my toes
with every wave that crashed.
The sign did not tell me
that around the corner
I would find wonder in the breeze
hope in the water
calm in the sand.
The sign just casually read
“Beach”
The poem and the photo make me want to go back to that same beach...
I loved it!
